Press Street is a New Orleans-based 501c3 literary and visual arts collective formed in 2005 to promote art and literature in the community through events, publications and arts education.
Its first publication, Intersection|New Orleans, featured 25 artists and 25 writers in a blind collaboration inspired by 25 street intersections throughout the city, proceeds from which help fund the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts|Riverfront's middle school literacy program.
Press Street has also published the graphic novel Revacuation, by local artist Brad Benischek, and Green Zone New Orleans, a book length poem with drawings by poet Mark Yakich.
For three years, Press Street has produced Drawathon, a 24-hour drawing extravaganza where artists and non-artists of all ages explore multiple forms of drawing through free workshops and events. In 2007, over 500 people from across the region participated.
In 2008, Press Street opened Antenna, one of the few small, non-profit art spaces to exhibit contemporary art in the city of New Orleans. Its newest project, Room 220, located in the Studio at Colton, provides free, dedicated workspace for writers who are also interested in community outreach and educational endeavors.
