Representing the work of three up and coming young artists, Projection Bias engages the artists' points of view regarding perception, self and social identification. The psychological phenomenon of projection is considered one of the most profound and subtle of human thought processes. Projection is a defense mechanism whereby one "projects" one's own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto a group or individual. The artwork in Projection Bias refers to this psychological process in the creation of social perception and self identification. Attempting to create a dialogue regarding perceived and actual identities, the artists in Projection Bias take on this psychological phenomenon as the fundamental mechanism by which we keep ourselves uninformed about one another.
